At the beginning of 2020, the new research project SUPPLy was launched at the IPS. SUPPLy, which stands for SimUltane Product and Process Development of a charging station outlet module suitable for automation.

A nationwide charging infrastructure is essential to make electromobility accessible to a broad section of the population for everyday use. However, an exact development of the number of units for the next years is not yet foreseeable. For this reason, the consortium has set itself the goal of developing a charging station outlet module that is compatible with a degree of automation of flexible production systems. In addition, the production system should be able to react to fluctuations in the number of units as required. From manual assembly to full automation, everything should be covered. This goal poses new challenges, both for product design suitable for automation and for process development, taking into account versatile systems.

On 22.01.2020 the project participants met for a half-day kick-off meeting at Compleo Charging Solutions in Dortmund. In addition to getting to know the employees involved, the meeting focused on the presentation of the project partners' subprojects, the joint objectives and the definition of the first steps.

The consortium of the project funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) consists of the three partners:

  • Compleo Charging Solutions GmbH (Compleo)
  • Chair of Manufacturing Automation and Production Systematics (FAPS)
  • Institute for Production Systems (IPS)

A first impression of the production and the outlet module manufactured on site was given by a joint tour of the production of the charging stations at Compleo.

At the kick-off, the next steps for a successful start of the project were jointly determined, which the participating employees concretized in a working meeting on the second day. The meeting came to a convivial close with a joint dinner.

We would like to thank Compleo Charging Solutions for their hospitality and look forward to an exciting and successful cooperation in the next three project years.
