Predetermined Motion Time Studies in Industrial Engineering (PMTS)
The PMTS laboratory course provides practical skills in the analysis, design, and optimization of cyclical work processes. Students also obtain the MTM-1 Base and MTM-UAS qualifications.
Objectives and Content
The aim of the PMTS laboratory course is to enable students to independently analyse and design cyclical work processes from both economic and ergonomic perspectives. To this end, they develop practical skills in applying the process building block systems MTM-1 Base and MTM-UAS. They learn to systematically record manual activities, describe them using standardized process building blocks, and identify potential for economic and ergonomic improvement. Students apply methods for mapping and evaluating current processes, developing method standards, and comparing design alternatives. Building on this, they design and document low-waste target processes using the MTM process language. Through this application-oriented training, students obtain the MTM-1 Base and MTM-UAS qualifications, which, upon successful completion of the examination, are confirmed by internationally recognized certificates issued by MTM ASSOCIATION e.V.

Relevance and Motivation
Against the background of global competition, rising costs, and increasing demands for flexibility, companies are required to continuously optimize their production processes. The laboratory course teaches MTM-1 Base and MTM-UAS methods that enable students to systematically analyse work processes, identify optimization potential, and compare design alternatives. Students learn to develop efficient and ergonomic processes during the planning phase and to determine reliable time data. These time data provide a key basis for numerous business functions, including work and process planning, capacity planning, costing, cost accounting, production control, and performance evaluation. MTM is therefore an important method in Industrial Engineering and productivity management.

- Format: Two-week block course
- Assessment: 60-minute written examination in German, as well as module examinations for certification in MTM-1 and MTM-UAS
