Another virtual doctoral examination via zoom took place at the IPS. Examined and afterwards virtually congratulated was Fabian Nöhring, M.Sc.

The format of virtual examinations using Zoom have been established during the pandemic. Mr. Fabian Nöhring, who has been employed at the IPS since 2013, has already become the fifth examinee to successfully complete the doctoral examination via this format.

The topic of his dissertation is "Approach to target-oriented design of cyber-physical production systems (CPPS) for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)". With the developed approach, Mr. Nöhring addresses the existing challenges of SMEs in the context of Industrie 4.0. Mr. Nöhring has analyzed in detail the characteristic features of SMEs and their obstacles in the introduction of Industrie 4.0 and developed an innovative approach to solve this problem. Two aspects form the core of the dissertation. On the one hand, a catalog was developed that describes existing Industrie 4.0 solutions in the form of CPPS and evaluates them in terms of their impact on key performance indicators and corporate goals. On the other hand, a process model was developed that supports SMEs in the selection of suitable solution approaches, based on their own corporate goals, as well as the derivation of a specific target state.

In a 45-minute presentation, Mr. Nöhring summarized his dissertation and then answered questions from the four-member examination committee. After the examination the entire IPS team, the members of the examination board as well as family members and friends were able to congratulate the successful doctoral candidate to his success success via Zoom.

The IPS would like to thank the two institute directors Prof Dr.-Ing. Jochen Deuse and Dr.-Ing. Ralph Richter, who supervised the dissertation, as well as the two other members of the examination board for their support and congratulates the PhD student Fabian Nöhring on passing the exams and wishes him much success for the future!
