Project start for the new VDMA guideline "Virtual commissioning"

With a constructive kick-off workshop on 27.02.2020 the work on the project for the new VDMA guideline for "virtual commissioning" (VIBN) started. The project is being carried out in cooperation between the RIF Institute for Research and Transfer e.V. and the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart. The institutes are supported by an advisory board of leading representatives from industry and academia in the topic area of VIBN.

The virtual commissioning uses digital images of a real plant including control and software components to accelerate and improve the commissioning at the end customer. It serves the machine builder to parallelize and secure the steps of the product development process up to the real commissioning. Errors or defects can not only be detected earlier, before the system is delivered, but also more easily.

The aim is to develop a guideline for decision makers in mechanical and plant engineering, in all areas of the value-added chain. This guide is intended to present the topic of VIBN in a compact form for new users, to provide support for the introduction of VIBN in one's own company from a technical and process point of view and to enable a well-founded evaluation.

In a first joint workshop with the advisory board, the content and conceptual framework was defined. On this basis, the development of the guideline contents is now in full speed.
