Successful Completion of the “Work System Design” course at IPS

During the winter semester 2025/26, the IPS once again offered the “Work System Design” course. Working together as a team, the participants focused on planning and designing an assembly system for the production of two-stage gearboxes – a challenging task that allowed them to apply fundamental tools of work system design in a hands-on learning environment. Using methods from industrial engineering and ergonomics, they analyzed motion sequences and optimized existing processes with regard to ergonomic and economic aspects. In addition, they developed suitable material supply strategies for workstations, carried out net present value and work system value assessments, and aligned the work content in a holistically linked assembly system with the customer demand rate.
Beyond technical expertise, the laboratory also fostered key competencies such as teamwork, organizational management, and project planning – skills that are essential in modern industrial engineering. The results clearly showed how theoretical concepts from academic studies can be successfully transferred into practical applications. The IPS congratulates all participating students and wishes them continued success in their studies and future careers.
