The research project “SyNExo - Systematic Utilization of Exoskeletons in Production and Logistics” has been successfully completed. The developed Quick-Check enables companies to identify workstations with a high potential for the use of exoskeletons.

The research project examined the potential of exoskeletons for use in production and logistics. Exoskeletons support employees in performing physically demanding tasks (such as lifting heavy objects), reducing the strain on the body. The focus was on developing a potential analysis in the form of a quick check. This enables interested companies to easily assess the potential benefits of using exoskeletons.

As part of the project, an analysis and categorization of commercially available exoskeleton solutions were initially created. At the same time, a systematization of potential use cases was carried out together with manufacturers and users. Only the combination of both results enables a targeted selection of exoskeletons in corresponding environments. In addition, the influence of exoskeletons on employees was investigated in laboratory studies with realistic production and logistics scenarios.

The central focus of the project was the development of the Quick-Check that is now available on our project website. The tool provides an easy entry into the topic of exoskeletons, particularly for small and medium-sized companies. It provides a systematic description of potential workstations and identifies limiting factors. The outcome is an evaluation of the potential use of exoskeletons, as well as a recommendation for action for implementation.

We would like to thank all those involved in the project for their excellent and constructive cooperation. In particular, we would like to thank the members of the project advisory committee and the funding agency for their support during the project.
