Innovative Competence Management: Successful Completion of the pro-kom Research Project

The world of work is undergoing profound changes driven by factors such as digitalization, automation, market complexity and dynamics, as well as demographic developments. These drivers are leading to significant shifts in the competencies required by employees. The pro-kom research project therefore aimed to analyze these necessary competencies and predict their development. A forward-looking approach to competence management and development was developed, specifically designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises in adapting to current transformation challenges. The methodological results were transferred into a functional IT demonstrator that integrates the necessary features into a unified interface while enabling centralized data collection, analysis, and management.
The developed demonstrator is designed as a web-based application designed to be readily available to interested companies. It allows for structured digital comparisons between required and existing competencies, conducts dynamic analyses, and offers innovative features, such as similarity analyses and forecasts, for targeted personnel development and planning of measures. Companies can flexibly incorporate their own data management systems and customize the application and its modules according to their needs. This flexibility enables companies to address specific requirements through targeted employee qualification while efficiently managing limited resources.
The project greatly benefited from the strong interest and active participation of the industrial partners. Contributions from developers and users across various industries ensured that practical solutions based on real-world needs were created. Special thanks also go to FIR e. V. an der RWTH Aachen for its exceptional collaboration as a research partner, which was essential to the project's success.
Highlights of the project were presented during a 30-minute conversation as part of the LinkedIn Live series organized by the KVD service association to the LinkedIn Live post. More information about the project can also be found on our project page To the project homepage.
