Start of the IGF research project UniDoku

The complex but necessary process of technical documentation in its current form no longer meets the requirements, such as shorter product life cycles, the increasing variety of variants and the required interoperability between the components of a production system. At the same time, Industry 4.0 technologies offer new possibilities for creating and providing information.
With UniDoku, a revolution is underway to ensure the uniformity, reusability and timeliness of technical documentation. The research project at TU Dortmund, funded by the BMWK, aims to streamline the documentation creation process and to reflect the increasingly dynamic production environment in real time in technical documentation. During the project period, a structural template for the digital technical documentation will be developed, which represents part of the digital twin of cyber-physical production systems (CPPS). Considering the entire life cycle of CPPS enables the continuity of the data as well as the potential to support existing and establish new services.
The applicability of the results is ensured throughout the project by close cooperation with partners from mechanical and plant engineering, integrators and service providers as well as transfer partners. The latter also support the planned push into standardization, which will place national research on the international stage and ensure interoperability in a globalized market environment.
Overall, UniDoku offers a holistic approach to structuring technical documentation and thus asserts itself against existing approaches, although synergies with these are nevertheless used.
We look forward to collaborating and exchanging ideas with our partners and would like to thank them in advance for their support in the period ahead.
