Last Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the first meeting of the Project Advisory Committee (PA) in the MODKMU project within the program of consortial industrial research and development (IGF) took place. The topic met with lively interest from a large number of industry representatives who came together at the RuhrOst Industry Network to find out about the current project status and contribute their expertise in workshops.

In MODKMU, our research partner RIF e. V. is investigating the question of which is the most suitable individual organizational principle for production and wants to develop a decision-making methodology for this. Classic approaches such as assembly line production or the assembly principle are contrasted with modern principles such as matrix production. The first project meeting therefore took place under the motto "Matrix production - does it make sense or not?

In addition to the presentation of the project and the current state of research, initial content was developed in various workshops. In the first half of the meeting, the classic forms of organization were presented and their advantages and disadvantages experienced in the production of the “Paper Flight” company. The participants also discussed which theoretical and practical forms should be considered in the project. This was followed by a discussion of modern principles for multi-variant production, including matrix production. They discussed how they can help to solve the current challenges of production and where new hurdles arise.

The second part already dealt with the initial preparations for the requirements catalog of the methodology. In a further workshop, input and target variables and their individual relevance were developed.

We would like to thank our project partners for the successful project kick-off. The discussions were informative and productive and encouraged us to work on the right problems. We are therefore already looking forward to the next project meeting.
