Sustainability through digitalisation: BeverGreen off to a promising start
- 2023
The BeverGreen project was officially launched in Bitburg on 23.05.2023. The research project is coordinated by the partner institute RIF e.V. During the kick-off meeting, the initial goals of the research project were discussed, in order to achieve sustainability with digital twins in production and logistics.
Rising energy and raw material prices, climate protection initiatives and international price competition are challenges for the brewing and beverage industry.
The BeverGreen research project was launched to address these challenges with the help of digital technologies. The kick-off workshop began with a round of introductions for all participants, during which the individual targets of each company were formulated. This was followed by a presentation of the project proposal and the project targets to be developed. The technical vision of the Green Digital Twin was then discussed.
In the following workshop, the goals of the participating companies were discussed on the basis of use cases from production and logistics. The connection of external data sets, logistics and production data forms the basis for sustainable services (e.g. calculation of CO2 equivalents).
In the second workshop, "the path to the first milestone" was discussed. The interview guidelines, the basic prototype for a Green Digital Twin and the initial situation of IT architecture and processes at the application partners were identified as essential work items. The interviews with the specialist departments were highlighted as an approach to analyse the initial situation and to develop new potentials. During the workshop, the work content was broken down into concrete next steps.
