Another virtual doctoral examination via zoom took place at the IPS. Examined was Dipl. Wirt.-Ing. André Barthelmey.

The format of virtual examinations using Zoom have been established during the pandemic. André Barthelmey, who has been employed at the IPS since 2013, has already become the fourth examinee to successfully complete the doctoral examination via this format.

The topic of his dissertation is "Digital Twin for continuous data processing and provision in the life cycle of changeable production systems".André Barthelmey developed an Internet of Things (IoT) architecture for production systems, with a digital twin of real plant components at its center. His goal was to unlock the full potential of transformable production systems by combining the technological changeability enablers for production system components with changeable supporting processes in the lifecycle of the system. His approach was the continuous acquisition of process and structural data within the digital twin, cross-system data preparation, and application-oriented data provision. In the validation Mr. Barthelmey was able to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed architecture for the editorial process, commissioning, monitoring of performance losses, and implementation of predictive maintenance.

In a 45-minute presentation, Mr. Barthelmey summarized his dissertation and then answered questions from the four-member examination committee. After the examination the entire IPS team, the members of the examination board as well as family members and friends were able to congratulate the successful doctoral candidate to his success success via Zoom.

The IPS would like to thank the two institute directors Prof Dr.-Ing. Jochen Deuse and Dr.-Ing. Ralph Richter, who supervised the dissertation, as well as the two other members of the examination board for their support and congratulates the PhD student André Barthelmey on passing the exams and wishes him much success for the future!
